CLAY LEAVES

capture the magnificent beauty of nature. The Autumn months provide me with endless inspiration.I often collect many leaves on my daily walks

Many leaves are in various stages of decay and their colors may be muted but their beauty still exists. I press these leaves between pages of books readying them to be used as templates for my clay. I blend clay slip and paper to begin the process - layering slowly over several days. I apply acrylic paints onto the surface of the fragile clay leaf that has been left after the initial kiln firing - the original leaf has burned away in the kiln. Details of each vein and color are explored as I paint to capture their beauty.

Please watch the short video of how I create these pieces that I have linked on this page.
